To those of you who couldn’t figure out the meaning of the rot13 cypher from the previous entry, here it is in all its legible glory:
“Unfortunately for everyone looking forward to Karl Mode (and those who can actually read Japanese), WOMI also stated in this update that they didn't have enough time to finish up their April Fool's joke for this year, so he went ahead and posted what they had. Karl Mode is not a real thing, so you can go ahead and remove that stuff from the RKS wiki, you jerks.”
Karl Palesch, Liebea’s brother mentioned in the first game, is not a playable character in Freudenstachel and was created for the sole purpose of this year’s April Fool’s joke. However, WOMI wrote that they didn’t have the time needed to complete the joke in its entirety, so what they had was posted for our viewing pleasure. What’s funny to me is that some people immediately pounced on the opportunity to announce a mode that very openly listed as fake in the [erka:es] blog, going as far as to update the wiki, listing Kahl/Karl as a playable character. This emphasizes the danger in having some people directly involved with the flow of information concerning the RKS series, something I’ve been very adamant amount since the wiki’s creation. Entries will get updated with whatever people feel is right or wrong, regardless of accuracy, and eventually, people take notice. This is not the way things should be handled.
Therefore, I have come up with a solution. Soon, we of Schwer and Schwer Alike will no longer support the RKS Wiki; we will instead create our very own on-site encyclopedia with all of the important and accurate information readily available to all readers of this site. It will not publicly editable; all information posted will be done from within the site, and any additions or requests will have to be run through site administration before it will be posted. This “RKSclopedia” will see its creation alongside the upcoming main website, of which the details will be announced at a later time.
This is the best possible scenario I can come up with, so please be aware of it. I don’t think I can actually *delete* the current RKS wiki, nor will I try to. The only thing I can request is that when the RKSclopedia is created, it should be considered the authority and the first option for RKS information, and I would like that to be known. We’ll worry about that when we actually get there, though.
In other news, I can’t wait to see what Hugh Man has in store for that RKS sprite-based movie, I still have a Kiora doujinshi to give away, and some other things are blah blah blah I’ll post later when I actually get it all together. Until then!
Well, in the Wiki's defense, there is next to no moderation there. The admin hasn't been around in ages, and thus there is no one to tell the problem users what exactly they are doing wrong. (I'd do it, but I doubt they'd listen to a barely active nobody.)
ReplyDeleteLikewise, what makes you think making a new wiki will somehow avoid the problems with the old wiki, such as users posting wrong information, admins and mods who are never around, and general inactivity?
On a more positive note, keep up the good work around here. I'm looking forward to the blog revamp.
Heh I believe I suggested making it closed to public editing ages ago, you just needed that final push huh?
ReplyDelete@Otherarrow
ReplyDeleteThe admin of the wiki, as far to my knowledge, is Mint himself.
But anyways, onto the topic at hand...
I would have never guessed that this would have been an April Fool's joke. The concept of the short life meter of this mode made it seem like it would have been real, as like what Grollschwert did to the original, the "Khal" mode would have to be more difficult than the initial game where you played as Freudia.
Now if only WOMI would upload a fansite kit or at least a higher-res full body Karl image. That would be something nice to own, but apparently WOMI isn't that nice in terms of bonus content that fans would probably love to have, and he only will listen and reply to only a select few, like Mint.
About the Wiki, that's what happens with pretty much every Wiki. the Angry Birds Wiki is full of misinformation because of no known admins moderating the site, terrible editors, and such. The RKS wiki also applies to that rule, but because we are more mature and developed, the articles are written with much more accurate information, punctuation, and grammar. Most of us, like me and TDOMMX didn't know or didn't assume that Karl's mode in RKSF was just a joke until the comments in the post prior to this one. Whenever we get new/updated info, we update the Wiki. Simple as that.
If you want to start a new encyclopedia ran just by you (and maybe Viper), we're not going to stop you.
The biggest problem lies in the fact that I cannot, for the life of me, figure out the intricacies of Wikia's software, and no matter how many times I ask for help, there is either no one around or I'm met with some sort of limitations. I can't figure out HOW to do things like lock articles, mostly because after I created the RKS wiki, I could not set myself as its administrator, no matter how hard I tried. Really, Wikia is a crappy site anyway with questionable practices, so I'd like to get away from there as soon as I can. Until then, if someone would like to school me on how it all works, I really could use the help.
ReplyDeleteA lesser issue spawns from the fact that I am/was largely against restricting the community from writing for the wiki, in turn placing trust in them that they won't say that Iris is a reference to Light Yagami or that Lecht and Rink are references to the sisters from ef - insert "tale" and other words. I want to believe that we are better than that, but I have been proven to be wrong on more than one occasion.
"Most of us, like me and TDOMMX didn't know or didn't assume that Karl's mode in RKSF was just a joke until the comments in the post prior to this one. Whenever we get new/updated info, we update the Wiki. Simple as that."
This is NOT acceptable behavior. There was no speculation behind whether Karl/Kahl was playable or not, or whether that's even what he looks like. It was written very openly and plainly on [erka:es]'s site that it was not real. Whenever a new update shows up, I always run it by SaSA's resident translator to figure out what exactly it says, so I don't start making stuff up or leading people in the wrong direction.
The RKSclopedia will probably follow the design of the original Japanese RKS wiki and will be run on an alternative wiki software that I really like. All information contained will be backed up by in-game info, site info, or direct word-of-mouth from [erka:es] themselves. I think that will be the best thing for everyone involved.
As for a "fansite" kit, please shut up about it. I might put in a request for it or something, but until then, stop spamming that garbage here. I cannot think of a single doujin game group that releases high-resolution renders of in-game portraits; it rarely happens, if at all, so please keep it to yourself.
Mint, FYI. I don't understand Japanese. Second, I didn't run what he said on his blog via a translator prior to this day. So I simply did not know it's wasn't an April Fools' joke.
ReplyDeleteWikia has it's own "help" wiki where you can post for help. Probably the biggest thing you could try to figure out is promoting other editors to higher ranks that will enable them to delete articles/images, lock articles, or block members. I know how a good Wiki looks and I'll be very happy to help you with the RKS wiki. You can also try contacting Wikia and asking them to promote you to the admin of that wiki, saying that you were the one responsible for creating it.
As for the press kit, fine. I'll stop bringing it up. But It would be a great feature for the series, alongside actually reading and responding to all received e-mails.

While the 4/1 in the entry should have been somewhat of a giveaway, the fact that you don't understand, and did not attempt to understand, the Japanese in [erka:es]'s update and still went and considered Karl's playability as fact is half of the reason you're not currently a writer on this site. Immediately posting false information reflects poorly on this site and the RKS English community, and I won't be having that here.

ReplyDeleteAnd you expected me, a guy with absolutely no knowledge of the Japanese language to read WOMI's blogpost that was written entirely in Japanese and actually assume it was an April Fools' prank and not fact the first time I saw it?
He we go again... -__-

ReplyDeleteThe Japanese post was dated 2011/03/28, rendering this point moot.
The rest of your argument is correct. People really need to stop latching onto new information and passing off their own interpretation of it as fact - especially when they don't speak the original language. You know what we call that in real life? Spoken, it's gossip and can lead to a lot of needless drama and heartbreak. In print, it's tabloid journalism. Or grounds for a libel lawsuit. It all depends on the subject and their tolerance for bullshit, really.
Justin, be careful with how you phrase your point; you just implied that I update the Wiki with hearsay with the same zeal and frequency as you. I rarely, if ever, edit Wikis of any kind (I occasionally mess with TV Tropes, but that's about it...). You never actually stated that, but by listing your and my names, then using "we" in the following sentence, it's understood that the "we" refers to you and me.
On a semi-related note, if anyone sees me entertaining a demonstrably false argument, please call me on it like Mint did in the comments to the previous post. Though I usually research what I say before repeating it, I'm not immune to being misled or jumping the gun.

A little hidden, but very much there.

ReplyDeleteI didn't mean you, TDOMMX. I meant all of the anon contributors and some like KirbyFan103. I wasn't implying that you were involved in this.
And I never noticed that 4/1 before.
But anyways, sorry dude.

ReplyDeleteIn other news, I have a test video of my RKS sprite movie thing.
Still don't have a name for the animation itself, and I'll be finished in like two weeks from now.
I'm thinking of RKS SoS parody. SoS is my own series of random crap thrown together.
Well, it's still the first of April, so I might as well post some false info as a joke, yadda yadda.
ReplyDeleteHere's four statements:
1. They all die at the end.
2. Grolla speaks in only quotes from the movie 300.
3. Iris wants to take over the world.
4. Libea does absolutely nothing and swears like a sailor.
Only one of these four statements is false, based on my sprite based RKS movie. Which one is it?
I won't tell you, you'll have to watch it and find out yourself.
I see what you did there. Well-played.
ReplyDeleteJust nipping this one in the bud: the previous comment was directed at Hugh Man.
ReplyDeleteJustin: Apology accepted. Just don't let me catch you doin' that again, y'hear? (-_^)
Letty: Wow, I didn't even notice that. It makes sense that Justin didn't, either. My bad.
Hugh: If you're using the names of the characters verbatim in your videos, it's "Luste", not "Lustre". That might be an appropriate name for her finishing attack spam ("Maximum Luster", ref: "Maximum Spider" from Marvel vs Capcom 2). Her long-range Lustatem looks like a solid orange rectangle, though; you might want to warp a charged Lustatem sprite to add some texture to it.
...
...Whoa, why am I getting a weird sense of deja vu here...?
@TDOMMX:
ReplyDelete"Apology accepted. Just don't let me catch you doin' that again, y'hear? (-_^)"
I can't make promises, but I'll try not to let myself go that far again.
"Letty: Wow, I didn't even notice that. It makes sense that Justin didn't, either. My bad."
Well when something is written in a language you don't understand, you tend to skip reading it or just skim through it, so that's why I didn't see the "4/1" in WOMI's post the first time. Plus, the rot13 text on the previous page was written entirely in black, which blended in with the all-black background, unless you highlighted the text or scrolled the page so it was overlapping the characters in the BG. At first, I thought Letty just mashed Enter several times before posting the post. If I had seen the text the first time, I would have probably asked what it said.
Well when something is written in a language you don't understand, you tend to skip reading it or just skim through it
ReplyDeleteJournalistic integrity, be damned.
You know Letty, you could have just told us it was a joke the first time, then maybe none of these shenanigans would have occurred regarding posting false information to the Wiki.
ReplyDeleteMajutsukai figured it out.
ReplyDeleteTDOMMX: Lustre? I didn't know that I used that.
ReplyDeleteI do realize that her name Luste. I had to go back and check, and I just now notice that I consistently switch between Lustre and Luste.
The visuals at this stage is permanent. I can't change it, being this far into the project.
This problem probably exists because I wrote a novel were I have a character by the name of Lustre.
As for Luste's final attack, she becomes the fully charged Lustatem strike, as you can see by the poorly recorded test video.
The actual one has a far better frame rate.
Hello here, I'm outside a few days and there's some fight again. Let's move on ;-)
ReplyDeleteI was not fully in the Castlevania series, althrought my brother is a big fan since ages. I discovered SotN years after on Xbox live Arcade, and it was just awesome...
Speaking about this april fool, a Simon-wanabee, why not but isn't the Megaman hommage not enought in terms of gameplay, I wonder. Having an Akumajou gameplay inside it's own looking-like graphics would made it less original, IMO. X_X
I'll take a look at these sprite-stories ;-)
How did that guy get inprisonment?
ReplyDeleteWell there's no way in hell that I am tied to one of the many anon. editors of the wiki with my hands being tied with my guide, helping my brother emulate games on his Android phone, finding better text editors, playing Dead Space 2 on PC (although I'd perfer to get the Xbox 360 since content-wise, the home consoles offer more DLC), helping my brother on Dead Space 2 on his PlayStation 3 and whatnot.
ReplyDelete@RobotusMaximus:
-SPOILER-
Iris lied to her father that Kahl / Karl is a spy of the Church and had him incarcerated. (Correct me if I'm wrong.)
It was more like a: "How the fuck did the anime version of Conan the barbarian get into prisonment anyway?" question, if you know what I mean.

Viper: You're close enough. Iris told her father that Karl made an attempt on her life. He likely inferred from this that Karl was a spy for the Orthodox Church.
I don't think it would have been hard to detain him if the count siced a small army of Magi on him. Even the strongest heroes can only do so much when they're hideously outnumbered.
