Project LT: Whiterockman Letty

So there are two really cool guys in the Japanese doujin scene named Sumikaze Midi and TEN. Why are they so cool, you ask? Because they are currently working on something amazing. Back at C78, Sumikaze created this a really cool-looking doujinshi called “Whiterockman Letty ~Dr. Okuu’s Ambition~” (you can see samples of it here), and TEN uploaded a promotional video for it on Nico, featuring a chiptune version of Letty’s theme and sample pages. All in all, it’s a pretty cool thing. Well, now, there’s a website with an unfinished flash animation featuring two characters: Whiterockman and Momijiman, who appear to be the Touhou equivalents of X and Zero, respectively. There are currently 7 open slots for Cirno, Hong Meiling, Hina Kagiyama, Parsee Mizuhashi, and Yuyuko Saigyouji, and no one has been given any information yet. Could this be an upcoming doujinshi series? Or perhaps, with TEN composing music tracks and posting them on his Twitter, could we be seeing the makings of a new Megaman-style platformer? A fun project, or the game that we’ve been waiting for to fill that MegaMari X-shaped hole in our doujin-loving hearts? It’s definitely worth keeping your eyes open for this one!

Follow Sumikaze and TEN on Twitter, and keep your eyes peeled for updates to the ProjectLT hashtag. This could be pretty amazing, and I’m not just saying that because I’m Letty Whiterock. Well, maybe I am a little bit.

  2. That sounds great, I always expected a sequel to Megamari, this could be an X-series variant of the Touhou world... Please inform us about future news on the subject, Letty ;)

  3. Damn, I COMPLETELY forgotten about this a year or so ago (especially since someone at Rockman PM show me this at pixiv). I gotta see what I've been missing. It'll be nice to fill in that void of my days reading Advent Cirno years ago (seriously, this doujinshi needs to be picked up where it left off).

  4. Advent Cirno's author went pro and is busy with Yumekui Merry, but I'm sure he hasn't forgotten about AC yet.

  5. I think they should rename it to Whiterockgirl instead. Oo

  6. I never knew about this "Whiterockman Letty" thing either, but this sounds wonderful. A Mega Man X series variant of Touhou wouldn't be such a bad idea.

    Also, I know, off-topic, but...

FUN FACT: Did you know that, sometimes, upon being defeated in-game in RKS, Schwer-Muta will utter the phrase "Uso da...!"? Basically, said phrase translates to such lines as either "It's a lie...!", "Liar...!", or even "You're lying...!". I believe that said phrase is a shout-out to Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, where characters such as Rena Ryuuguu would angrily shout "Uso da!" in response to a perceived lie.

NEWSFLASH! WOMI just updated his blog with a new screencap of dialogue between Tia and Lilli.

  8. So this is the first time we see Spiritia in WOMi's new art style. And it looks good.

  9. Strange...well the post itself is probably more important. I check back and unlike the rest these mugshots aren't updated like the others rather these are the same ones from RKS

  13. A Megamari sequel? Fine by me. It deserves one. Although I would have preferred playing as either Cirno or China but I'd guess this comment would add me in the majority. I can't help it, they both rock hard.
Anyway, looking forward to this one, or ANY MegaClone game for that matter.

  14. Anonymous 2: True, the line is iconic in Higurashi with its distinct, stylized delivery, but Schwer's use of the line is decidedly not a Higurashi reference; none of the Higurashi styling is present when she delivers the line (no cat eyes; no warped expression; no heavy, oppressive mood; no anger whatsoever in her voice - just genuine shock at having lost the fight). "Uso da...!" can mean "It's a lie...!", "It can't be..!.", "You gotta be shittin' me...!", "No way...!", or "You're kidding...!", among many other phrasings; it's a generic phrase with many equally-valid English renditions. I hate to burst your bubble, but it just isn't a reference of any kind, just like how "good morning" isn't automatically a Chrono Trigger reference just because "Good morning, Crono..." is such a well-known phrase among gamers or "all according to plan" isn't instantly a Death Note homage.

Incidentally, Lilli randomly uses the line herself whenever Tia dies, "Uso... da yo ne..." ("You're... kidding, right...?"). You can hear the English rendition of this clip in the dub announcement.

mhakk: Notice I never said a word about Mint's tasteless (and immediately disproven) joke. My exact response right before the post went up was "...You dick." and I dared him to follow through with it. You know the rest already.

Back on topic: If Whiterockman Letty isn't balls-to-the-wall insane like Megamari, sign me up.

On the topic of platformers, an old friend of mine suggested checking out Kurovadis, a nicely-animated action platformer that isn't quite safe for work. It's pretty short and doesn't have much replay value once you've bested all three bosses, but it's a nice, Metroidvanian way to kill time and the fluidity of the animation is something that simply has to be seen. This is what SNES-era games would look like if they ran at 60 frames-per-second. The demo is free, and the full game is only $5.
