Anger Spikes and Wiki Nonsense

Alright, I haven't been checking the RKS Wiki change logs as much as I used to, but I really feel like I shouldn't have to. I figured that the many of you who follow RKS and are part of the RKS fandom know better than to fill in baseless, stupid information into some of the various articles. Some are a little better than others, but the entire point was to prevent misinformation and not be fucking retarded about it all.

First of all, I have to ONCE AGAIN call you out, SuperJustinBros. I really don't want to have to waste my time dealing with your crap, but once again, I don't have much of a choice. Your Super Justin Wiki (or whatever the hell it is) advertises [erka:es]'s characters as part of your "Super Justin franchise." I'm completely sick of you claiming these characters to be yours in any way, and I'm tired of you stealing everyone else's shit to make it your own. I actually addressed this very thing with you when I discovered that you wanted to use Axelle Blitzdonner, her likeness, and anything associated with her. Rather than respecting me, you basically told me to fuck off by claiming that Axelle's supposed brother Wrenchi, which is pretty stupid as it is, was, and I quote, "'planted deep' into the series, so taking him out would be like blowing the circuits to a house." You took a character of my design and creation and decided that she was yours to work with, so you gave her a brother with a dumb name and an even dumber design. You didn't approach me about this. You just took it upon yourself to make it happen. And I'm not alone here. You've taken every single one of [erka:es]'s characters and made them your own by giving them "siblings" and then planting them into your "franchise." According to your Wiki, Iris Sepperin's first appearance is on a game called "Super Justin PC." No, she is not. I don't care if that's the case within your own little world where Rosenkreuzstilette and its creators don't exist and you're some arrogant prodigy with the creativity and skills to invent these characters and games, but in the real world, you're an uncreative abortion of an artist with absolutely no respect for those who do have the creative minds to come up with such things and have put forth the time and effort to make something out of their ideas. Instead, you are helping spread misinformation about the Rosenkreuzstilette series, and I am not going to tolerate that.

Case in point, in this art request post by AlchemyOtaku17, you did absolutely NOTHING to let this person know what the hell Rosenkreuzstilette actually is, leaving him to claim to his various art viewers that Rosenkreuzstilette is "some lolicon game." I had to come in and basically pick up your slack, something I shouldn't have to do, so it doesn't make the series look like some pedophilia hentai game to the people who have never seen or heard of it. I shouldn't be having these problems. These shouldn't be problems at all. However, they are, and it's all thanks in part to you. And I'm fucking tired of it.

I don't know who you think you are, but you, not your art, are an affront to the entire artistic community. When the Japanese RKS community derails their own game discussion to laugh at your artistic nonsense, that's one thing. When Kiora actually e-mailed me, asking for my help to get you to start improving and stop flooding pixiv with your incredibly terrible pictures because he, as an actual artist, could see that you have absolutely no intention of improving on a level that actually matters, that's another. You're also pretty lucky that most of the Japanese can't read English very well, because I can only imagine what would come of them finding out that you're essentially stealing [erka:es]'s intellectual property for your own amusement. How do you think [erka:es] themselves would feel about you doing this? I whole-heartedly suggest that you take a step out of your little Super Justin box and realize that the world does not revolve around you and that it's about time you start taking real artistic criticism to heart. Get the hell away from DeviantArt for a while, because those people are not going to help you. They will claim your art is great, no matter what you do, and it will simply spiral into a circlejerk of idiocy, and in the end, you insult actual artists who are original, do care about the overall quality of their work, and actually put forth the effort to make it acceptable. Bad art exists, of this there is no doubt, but you continue to think that your art is somehow excusable and that harsh criticism does not apply to you just because you go "yeah, it's bad, but whatever." Make an effort to do something with yourself and start taking your art seriously on all levels. Don't just work to improve the quality of the aesthetics. Work to improve your creativity, and make something that is actually your own. Do anything else, because as it stands, you're doing absolutely nothing for the RKS community, and if you have no intention of bettering yourself for your own sake and making it so the rest of us aren't embarrassed to be associated with you, then we don't fucking want you.

Now, on to the wiki nonsense. Justin, this goes for you too. I'm not sure who all is doing it, but people are uploading information to the wiki that is either wrong or just plain stupid. Things like claiming that Iris Sepperin is a former member of RKS are on the minor side of things. (She was not ever a member of RKS, because Count Sepperin made it a point to hide her powers from everyone, including the other members of the Order. She was never a member herself.) That's not a big deal. Claiming that certain characters may be references to other anime characters because they share similar archetypes is pretty bad. Just because Luste likes tomato juice doesn't mean that she's like any other character in the entire anime realm that like tomato juice (this is just an example), so please, unless something is a VERY clear reference, don't assume. But when things like "Schirach slightly resembles a bat" comes up, I have to speak and tell the lot of you to stop putting utterly nonsensical, completely baseless, entirely moronic claims and information in the Wiki. There is absolutely no reason for it, and as the only reference guide for "accurate" RKS information in English, there is absolutely no place for it. Please don't do this anymore, and if any of you see it, please do something to handle it or report it to me. I have been very impressed with some of the things within the Wiki, and I ask that you guys keep it up, because it's awesome. However, things like that simply don't belong, so I ask you all to not do it. Thanks a million.

Well, that's enough of that.

  3. Why not just lock all the pages on the wiki? It'd solve the stupid edits problem.

  4. Why don't you just, huh. Write an e-mail to erka:es explaining the situation to them so that Justin gets a cease and desist letter? That'd be pretty funny.

  5. Justin, if [erka:es] had the weight of a commercial outfit (and spoke English), you'd have been sued already for copyright infringement. Ambitious and professional-grade projects like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 2D and Chrono Resurrection have been forcibly shut down by Nintendo and Square-Enix, respectively, just for making use of their characters. Kajar Laboratories' Crimson Echoes suffered the same fate, even though most of the work was done from scratch.

Unless you have explicitly been given the right to do so, using any part of another person's work or ideas is intellectual theft, no matter how much of a tribute to its source material it may be.

On a related note, I am disappointed by the lack of effort that went into the graphics department of the Chinese RKS localization. I'll cut them some slack for being inexperienced, but I can't overlook when parts of our work (ie: our proof-of-concept screenshots) are plagiarized, especially when the results look like this.

  7. Report his DeviantArt and Pixiv accounts for copyright infringement since he's not giving proper credit and then e-mail erka:es is what I still say.

  8. Letty, mind if I make a rant on stupid people like the artist who made that Trauare impostor on your blog. Because I will NOT stand for it when ignorant people insult other people who hard for what they love.

A long time back, I faced my shares of spammers, haters, etc. against a YouTube user named Marriland, who makes a kick-ass Pokemon site because he loved the Pokemon franchise like you do with RKS. Those haters got a taste of my own punishment from me personally. If not, I understand.

  9. The main issue with claiming that canonical characters from somewhat unknown series are part of some made-up canon is this:

People who stumble on the made-up canon first will think your version is the correct one. They have no idea that, maybe, it's not.

Fact is: Your own universe is not as good as the actual Rosenkreuzstilette. When people see the characters, they will think it's your stuff. They won't see the real Freudia, they will see the Justin-bastard version.

If they didn't like it, they'll not like RKS. RKS never had a chance with them.

Justin, you're actually one of the biggest threats to RKS getting more well known in the west. Not just that: Due to you adding to pixiv and flooding it you're potentially even detracting japanese fans from liking it.

And you call yourself a fan? Honestly?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Honestly, any hope Justin will be on the receiving end of copyright enforcement is a pipe dream. As to his work being derivative, the whole doujinshi culture is quite tolerant of that. As to proper, accurate attribution, that simply is not the core motivation of copyright; profit is.

If what's said of Justin is true, he nonetheless amounts to nothing more than an illiterate (to the Japanese, the primary market for the product) babbling on the other side of the world. He is so irrelevant to [erka:es] that he may as well not exist. And he's going to stay that way until he kicks out some kind of product himself, gets a significant amount of customers, and continues saying things that aren't true.

If you think that's likely, you're perfectly justified in thinking he'll be legally targeted.

Don't get me wrong, I like the truth as much as anybody. But I can't get angry at someone for the offense of lying when the damage it does is so minuscule.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Not only that, but his "franchise" promotes censorship by removing the religious symbols (i.e. the star on Grolla's headband in place of the silver cross).

    ReplyDelete
  12. Wow, I cannot believe how much hatred I'm getting, no matter what I do to tell everyone that I am giving credit to [erka:es]'s characters. =_=!

  13. I'm not giving out hate comments, Justin, but the cold, and bitter truth.

  14. People who stumble on the made-up canon first will think your version is the correct one. They have no idea that, maybe, it's not.

Yeah, everyone knows I'm the only one allowed to make up information that sounds plausible about RKS.

    Fandom: Serious business.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Justin, it doesn't matter that you're giving credit. Resurrection Games did exactly that, and they still got slapped with a Cease-and-Desist. Kajar Labs was forced to destroy all of their projects (Chrono Trigger Coliseum, Prophet's Guile, and Crimson Echoes), even with the proper attribution.

Don't get me wrong: I love well-done derivative works. But if I was asked to pick sides between Super Justin Bros. and Rosenkreuzstilette, there'd be no contest.

Here's hoping you Metroid: SR388 gets to see the light of day. That's something worth fighting Nintendo for.

    ReplyDelete

  16. Yeah, everyone knows I'm the only one allowed to make up information that sounds plausible about RKS.

The point sailed far over your head.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I'm lollin' at this whole thing anyway, anon. Welcome to every fandom ever. Serious fucking business, guys. Serious. Business.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Not to be pessimistic and sound like a broken record, but you guys could sit here all day and complain about his bad art and copyright infriging all day...

Or you could take action and, like I said, send e-mails out to DeviantArt and Pixiv mods, who WILL close his accounts at the very least. Then if you so feel inclined, you can send mass e-mails to erka:es explaining the situation to them, or ask the people who speak fluent Japanese and frequent this blog to handle it.

Saying "it won't accomplish anything" over and over and then feeding the troll with the attention he wants is going to accomplish the exact opposite of what you guys want, which is him stopping. It should be clear by this point everything he is doing is for attention and he's being this bad and stupid on purpose.

    ReplyDelete
  19. *sigh*

I swear, an angel dies every time a project like Crimson Echoes gets kicked to the curb like that. That's just not right.

  21. Let me clarify two things I was attempting to say earlier:

First, I don't have a whole lot of reason to think Justin is doing anything dishonest. Lots of people are accusing him here, but you cite very little in the way of actual dirt.

Second, even if the allegations are true, he is totally harmless.

The things he's written on his wiki are fanfiction. The stuff he draws is fanart. It doesn't hurt anyone, no matter how low your assessment of its quality.

And if Dri's actually claiming to be serious (I figured he was joking until he elaborated), I have to say his proposal is- let's say, misguided. He gets the benefit of Hanlon's Razor when I say that.

What he proposes is nothing more nor less than using copyright law and DeviantArt/pixiv policies as a club to bash Justin with. Why? As near as I can tell, because he dislikes Justin's art/fics/personality.

I'll take the harshest words here at face value (even the Anon poster's speculation that people will run screaming from RKS after exposure to Justin's work, which I find rather silly), and still assert Justin is almost completely harmless.

DeviantArt and pixiv are independently run sites, so it is at their discretion to ban people for whatever reason they like, but I don't believe they should block accounts for Justin's alleged failures. As for copyright law, the Japanese have the right idea when they let people make derivative works all willy-nilly and sell them as doujinshi (Free Culture, by Lawrence Lessig, devotes a few pages (25-28) specifically to this phenomenon, and comes out in favor of it); Justin's work doesn't even do that much.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Thank you Billion I was truly wondering if anyone here was going to have a decent head on their soldiers and think about what's really going on here.
As much as I dislike SuperJustinBros artwork he is essentially doing nothing wrong here except...well being a bad artist and really that's all that he's being accused of.
Let's say for example he was a...well really good artist would the same accusations of copyright infringement be thrown out there for making a few custom characters based off the RKS franchise?
So you will say that he is lucky that he doesn't get a cease and desist from [erka:es] because he's using their characters in such a way? Alright then let's proceed to shut down all of DeviantArt, Pixiv, and Fanfiction.net tonight because I guarantee that I can find such "infringements of copyright" in seconds to any series no questions asked. But will they get shutdown?
    No.
    Why?
Because this is the fandom. This is what FANS have created for a non-profit work.
I should also use this time to mention that using your logic [erka:as] is in just as much legal copyright troubles as Justin is. Are you forgetting that RKS as a whole is obviously in thousands of ways "infringing the copyright" of Capcom and the Megaman series? Did they get express permision from Capcom to make the game? No somehow I doubt that.
But no. Sense they do a good job making it look pretty they get off scotch free AND make a profit off it while Justin gets a cease and desist.
Yes you will argue that excellent fangames such as "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 2D" and "Chrono Resurrection" are perfect examples of the company's taking legal exercise to the fans...But how often is that? Are you saying people aren't allowed to make fangames in the likeness of another franchise (which I need to add again RKS does just that) or should I take another example and say that maybe Rom Hackers and music remixers who edit existing "copyrighted" merchandise for their own fun and amusement should all just gain the same "cease and desist"
Because dammit you just aren't allowed to have fun if I'm not satisfied with it.
I know SuperJustin's not a good artist. Not the worst I've seen but still not a good artist.. But in the end the only thing he's done "wrong" is try and portray his work as cannon in the wiki.
I shouldn't rant on this but when something like this is blown so out of proportion as this with such ridiculous claims I just needed to get this out.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Anyway you can put this drama out of the rss? It's just that I care about the actual progress of the game and not about all this shit. K thanks

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'm not entirely sure where this whole "copyright infringement" stuff came from, because that is FAR from the point. I don't even entirely know how accurate it all is, but I'll let you guys worry about that. I'm not getting involved with that one.

The fact of the matter is that misinformation leads to more misinformation, which is definitely happening. I made a post about the false wiki information and even talked to Colin himself back in the day concerning his fanon, which he even joked about earlier in these comments.

What really set me off was seeing Justin's edit to Schirach's wiki entry that said she "resembles a bat." I don't know why he took it upon himself to turn his opinions into archived fact, but he clearly has absolutely no care or concern for something I created the wiki to prevent.

I was incredibly harsh in my words, and I apologize if I went too far with anything, but this was a long time coming. I have personally defended Justin in the past on a few things, but when he chose to do nothing about misinformation and to take a character of my own creation as his own (and then tell me that it basically didn't matter what I say because he'll use whatever he wants to, regardless), my patience for him wore incredibly thin, and since he had no remorse for his decisions, I decided to call him out here in the midst of my thoughts and annoyances on the wiki misinformation, since he was something of a leading cause of it.

If I am being petty, then I'm sorry. I do feel incredibly silly in being so protective of something like Axelle Blitzdonner, but I'm not going to let Justin bastardize something that I actually took time out of my day to create, and when I told him that she was not his to do anything with, he basically said "Well, I'm going to anyway. ^_^ Sorry!" He's an arrogant idiot, but I let it go. And then this happened.

I'm a huge fan of the comments in his DeviantArt journal entry. They're not entirely unexpected, as I knew he would run to DA or his blog, and the people there would welcome him with open arms. Justin, that's exactly why I told you to get away from there for a bit, because those people aren't going to help you.

I don't want to turn this into anymore than it already is. I've made my points, and I'm just going to let it go from here. I don't care what happens at this point, and unless something big happens, this will be the last drama-rant on Schwer and Schwer Alike for a long while.

Thanks to everyone who is willing to put up with this and with me. Your support (or indifference) is appreciated.

    ReplyDelete
  25. didn't YOUR (ex)GIRLFRIEND make that thing anyway

    the mind boggles

    ReplyDelete
  26. That's not indifference Letty... I'm just watching this silently, and I don't have any definitive opinion about all those things.

I think Justin's wouldn't do any harm there, he just wants to be recognized. But he happens to be quite clumzy at it, sadly. I honestly think he didn't want to do anything bad.

On the other hand, it's true that all these acts are not worthy of what we would hope for the RKS fans "products" to be, as the RKS world is "melted" with his own.

And I would feel the same, Letty, if my own work or ideas (Axelle) was hijacked...

That aside, making a trial of everything that seems to be copyrighted is just a littleeeee bit exagerated ;-)

Then TDOMMX should have troubles with Capcom, I'd be sued by Zun, and so on.
Let's wait some news about the actual RKS's products, then :-)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Hmm... It seems we are entering the clean zone right now.

    ReplyDelete
  28. @previous Anon:
Axelle is Letty's design and his alone. Rintycakes helped with drawing and submitting her to [erka:es].

    ReplyDelete
  29. I get what Letty is trying to say and admit that approaching the issue from a legal angle was not the smartest decision. In any event, I watched a "controversial" work yesterday that I feel perfectly illustrates what he was getting at:

Back in 2006, Seven Seas Entertainment was planning to release Kodomo no Jikan (A Child's Time) in English. However, some parental groups caught wind of the fact that the female lead, a 9-year-old girl, flirts with and teases her teacher (the main character) on a daily basis. Though this is often to the protagonists annoyance, rumors circulated that the title encouraged pedophilia and prompted would-be vendors to drop their orders, sabotaging any potential for commercial success.

Having watched the anime version in its entirety, I can confirm that this was a thoughtless knee-jerk reaction. The sixth episode (a flashback) is one of the most heartfelt pieces of animation I have ever seen, and I've been an anime fan for over 12 years. Despite that, The title was eventually cancelled for not being "appropriate for the US market by any reasonable standard".

To this day, the series has never had a chance in North America (I watched it via fansub). And I feel it unfortunately never will because of the negative stigma, despite the fact that it's superior in every respect to the tons of fanservice shows out there that do inexplicably get official English releases. Just as it's difficult to have a discussion about Mass Effect or Super Columbine RPG (which is, for all intents and purposes, a documentary in video game form), too may people have an erroneous image of the works in question and will never give them a second thought as a result. I believe Letty is trying to prevent the same from happening to RKS.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Oh, and Killing_Doll, I have a letter from Capcom's Rey Jiminez granting Darkside permission to create derivatives of their works (provided they are not for profit). Some companies are much better sports than others. I'm not positive, but I believe ZUN encourages derivative works and has officially accepted two fighting game spinoffs into the canon as interquels. Still, I get your point.

    ReplyDelete
  31. that's a lot of words for 'i am a pedophile'

whether the affections are returned or not is irrelevant, the show sexualized a nine year-old girl

    ReplyDelete
  32. TDOMMX> Actually I saidthis as a joke, as you expect ;-)
    But you had indeed Capcom's agreement ! * Respect ! * ^_^

You're right, I'm associated with Touhou's fan community. It seems ZUN's not so fond of fanart and derivatives, but shows much tolerence.

Ho, and there's already a third fighting game from Tasogare Frontier (TH12.3), which we are currently bug-reporting too ;-)

  40. I agree: that was indeed a retarded and reactionary thing to say. I neither condemned nor condoned underage sexuality in my post; all I said was that the show was unfairly criticized and that the sixth episode was beautiful. That episode, by the way, was about the passing of the female lead's mother, several years before the events of the first episode.

In any event, thank you very much for proving my point for me. Many people tend to take what little they've heard about something as gospel and condemn it (and all its supporters, as you've so tactfully shown) based on misinformation and projected expectations. The "Sex-Box" Mass Effect debacle perpetrated by Fox News is an example I'm sure many of you can understand. In the case of Kodomo, these people can't stop to think that the character's actions might be a sign of some serious psychological issues that need to be sorted out (and that indeed becomes the main crux of the show).

I'm appalled and disgusted that people are so quick to vilify something they know nothing about and have no intention of researching. Take a minute, learn what something really is, then decide if it's something to scoff at. Doing any less is shallow, insensitive, and disrespectful - to the author of the work, to its supporters, and to anyone capable of rational thought. There's much wisdom in the phrase "don't judge a book by its cover", you know.

To be honest, I haven't read Lolita. I might check it out eventually, but I don't plan to anytime soon.

...It's kind of funny that I'm getting applause for securing Capcom's permission now when I received their blessing eight years ago...

  41. You what's the sad part, no one on deviantArt has the brains to even look up "Rosenkreuzstilette" on Google, Yahoo, etc. to get the hard facts here or the wiki. |||.|||+

    ReplyDelete
  42. Actually, the Touhou fighting games are canon because ZUN worked on both and not because he just told us that it is. ZUN actually supports the Touhou doujin community however the original games must not be overshadowed and that the endings are not released in the internet. Those are his only requests.

Anyway, Justin's work are pretty much just fanart and fanfiction. Basically fanon. No harm done there. However, not giving proper credit is low, very very low. In any case, you need to improve. ZUN art is much much better.

About the wiki, can't you just lock the articles or remake it so that only a handful of users could edit it?

  44. I really think that the damage already done on the RKS western community will be very hard to fix...

  45. Such damages will simply be built upon from here. The lot of us will simply have to pick up the slack and work to get the game known. So let's do that. I would love to see banner ads and what-not for it. In fact, we'll make a campaign out of it. Next post.

  46. I just hope that the fanbase won't become as retarded as the current Touhou fanbase. Well, it has been a while since I last checked it's status, but I'm sure its as bad as it was 6 months ago.

  47. Wow, this really seems interesting. :) I cannot wait to see how this goes.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I would agree with Lion, because thanks to Justin for taking the RKS characters and putting them into a made-up, non-existent "franchise," and the fact that over 90% his fantards on dA are as cleaver as Lindsay from the Total Drama, it'd be nigh possible for people to see the REAL Rosenkreuzstilette. Especially since Justin still insists on having people make art for his pathetic "franchise"...

    ReplyDelete
  49. I don't get what's the meaning of
"commissioning" those "art trades" or whatever they are at DA. It doesn't makes sense to me.
Also, I find it mind blowing, and a proof that he is just a big troll, that in less that 6 months he's got almost 20k views, while me, that has been around since 2004/2005 have 7k views, and my art is by far not excellent, but it surely isn't crap.
    I bet he's one of those fav-whores.

  50. "Please note that many of the descriptions given to the non-original characters and games you see here are entirely made-up and considered fan-fiction and is not canon. If you want more accurate information of the characters and what they originally debouted in, please go to Wikipedia, Bulbapedia, the Super Mario Wiki, and the Rosenkreuzstilette Wiki. Otherwise, have fun browsing.

I do not claim any of the characters I do not make as mine. They all rightfully belong to their original owners."

    ReplyDelete
  51. Same here, Lion. My art isn't good like most of my friends and artists that I admire, but my art isn't total crap. And I've been on dA art for a about 2 years now and I barely got 5k views. It sucks... >_<

    ReplyDelete
  52. You know, its just like that saying goes:

"Why bother with great when good sells better."

But in this particular case, it'd probably go something like this:

"Why bother with Rosenkreuzstilette, a great Mega Man doujin soft series that makes various homages to many of our favorite games from the past, when Super Justin Bros., a so-called 'game' series thought up by some attention-starved teenager that bastardizes game series like Rosenkreuzstilette is better, when its not."

And unfortunately a saying like that is true when someone like Justin has over 18k+ fantards who don't even look this stuff up on Google or something...

  53. I swear, do we have to physically and emotionally humiliate these fantards to listen to people like Mint, myself, or any true fans of RKS just like Spiritia did with Zorne...? |||_|||

  54. "What do I keep telling you? There's not much you can do to stop that. Well, short of showing up at all their houses and beating the shit out of them, I guess."

  55. ^Somehow I can kinda recall hearing that line somewhere, but I can't put my finger on it... f^_^;

  60. And you're taking all of the glory from the people who actually deverses it...

  61. I think it already has since Justin took every one of [erka:es] and their respective creators characters and paired them with STUPID characters... Not to mention that he has a legion of fantards that will never any rational thoughts at all.

  62. To: Justin: Give it up. No matter what you say, what you do, no matter how much the facts are on your side, no matter how much ass you lick, these people will always spew their venom over you and your fans. Your best bet is to do an about face and forward march onward to the future.

  65. This is getting nowhere you know.

At this point it'd probably make the most sense to lock the commentary on this post.

  66. I think at this point it is clear that justin is beyond rational thought and only cares for himself. He even stole from members of the community. Makes you rethink doing any work because Justin is going to steal it anyway, with his little "fans" thinking he's so creative, when he did really nothing.

Fandumb has a new poster child.

It's really quite sad when it has to come to that.
