Rosenkreuzstilette Chinese Language Patch is done!

I received word from leozx telling me that the Chinese language patch is complete. They weren't able to get a website up, but more information is available here. I guess you could head over that way and show your support!

  4. The English patch was truely well made, after finishing the two modes I didn't have anything to blame. Just near-perfect work. ;-)

    It's hard to find well-made french translations for what I know...
    I once was part of a translation team for an anime, and I yelled so much time because of some people's bad work... X_X

  6. I did that mostly to help a friend, Justin, we were short on people to work on this project... ;-)

    With my current job, it would be hard to find some spare time to spend on a whole new project now.

    It would be nice to help translating the languages I speak, but making a full translation patch like Darktranslations did... Too much work nowadays, they deserve my respect for that !

    Translating anime episodes or manga was easier, becase we already have some programming tools ready to use. Subbing was the major part of the job, a translation patch of a game needs bug-testing and all, that's a huge work in my opinion.

    In brief, it's mostly about bug report and the corresponding corrections made in the 04a patch.

    Some people mentionned the fact that the demo is now too easy, but the answers is that an adjustable difficulty is not available for now.

    In my opinion, that should say they're probably working on it for the final release... That's good news for everyone (anyone for a Lunatic mode, folks ?) ^_^

    Some talks about the hair color change when using a boss weapon, too. I like the "ribbon color change"-only thing for Freu, it's rather more subtile.

    Maybe that's off topic, but that was also worth a comment.

  12. Personally, I'd like to have a look at the Chinese translation myself to see what kind of approach the group took for most of the graphics edits. I haven't been able to figure out how to download the patch, though, and machine translations haven't helped much with navigating the site.

    Thanks a lot, Killing_Doll. Mint rails on me from time to time for being too perfectionistic, but I think my attention to detail is an asset more often than not. If I was translating for profit, I'd curb my tendencies to make sure that deadlines are respected, but when it comes to labors of love...

    Don't forget that Mint and I aren't the only major players in the Blades of the Rose Cross project: Akira and Tanin deserve just as much recognition, if not more so. Without the two of them, the patch would never have been possible.

    By the way, I can write in French fairly well; I just don't like speaking it for political reasons (Canada's Bill 101). At my last job, I filled my downtime by translating French documents into English (I did mention professional translation work in the Darkside bio...).

    If a French group approached us to make Les aiguilles de la croix rose (alternatively, Les lames de la croix rose), I'd be delighted to support the endeavor. I wouldn't tackle writing a French script myself since it's not my mother tongue (even if it was drilled into me since I was five...) - I feel a localization should always be written by a native speaker of the target language.

    I should point out that Dark Translations is a completely separate group. We predate them by a good seven years (we started in 2001, then closed up shop in 2002 before starting back again last year). Whereas we don't have a specific focus (other than our projects being of Japanese origin), they specialize in translating hardcore Japanese eroge. While I'm a devout fan of visual novels (Ever 17, Phantom of Inferno, Crescendo, and Katawa Shoujo, among others, are simply brilliant), just looking at the boxart of the stuff Dark releases is enough to make me wince...

    Justin, it's not luck that matters when tackling a translation of any kind. You need skill, dedication, and, if you're not going it alone, connections. Romhacking.net helps bigtime in the last category (at least five people involved with RKS learned of the project via RHDN). You need to know how to translate between languages and figure out how to make the game display the localized text, but skill means nothing if you don't have the drive to see something through to the end. There are plenty of vaporware translation projects out there, and some localizations can take up to a decade to finish (like, say, Policenauts). Your love for a title will be tested whenever you translate it for another audience, and you have to be willing to completely ruin it for yourself (including all possible feelings of nostalgia) so that others can have a better experience than you ever could. Most groups don't realize this when they first start up, so they end up shutting down not that long after they start, "because it's just not fun anymore".

  14. @TDOMMX: I knew that. It's just it seemed he was lucky to actually be translating something. I can't even speak anything other than English.

    And personally, I agree with the difficulty settings. They should be made. And I was one of the people that requested that Freudia's hair and outfit change color when she switches weapons.

    Making a French script wouldn't be too hard, it's more the programming features that'd be hard to deal with...

    Lunatic Mode FTW ! t's these kinds of challenge that make the replay value of an old-school game.
    If Touhou games had only an easy mode, we wouldn't spend so much time on it X_X

    While it certainly has its merits, moderation and balance are important, and the only place I really get on you about this is in your choice of dialogue. You tend to be incredibly wordy in your everyday speech, which is all well and good, but the main issue is that is few people in the real world talk like you do, and when your mannerisms carry over, it just makes things... difficult.

    Truthfully speaking, I've been skipping almost all his posts for some time now. I only go back up to them if somebody else makes an interresting comment which I miss the context on. It's sad to have to roll your scroll wheel TWICE just to get past a single post.

    That's why difficulty levels should be great: casuals too would enjoy the game fully. And challenge lovers would be in heaven, too.

    A good difficulty balance is hard to make... Tjis afternoon, I playd RKS "1", long time I didn't played it. It takes not much time to finish, now. The first RKSF web trial was interrestingly harder, but undoable for most players maybe: pleasing everyone is often hard.

    As for Touhou easy or normal modes... TH12 is really hardcore, even for the lower levels. Zun seems to forget the casual gamers for sure, nowadays... O_o'

    But yeah, difficulty modes would be good. Would help crappy players like me and still give a challenge to better ones.
